The Waggaman Fairgrounds is designed to be an inexpensive economical
venue for local activities and is not intended to be a high priced venue
to compete with the Alario Center, Ponchartrain Center and the New
Orleans Arena for high priced and national events.
Plans are for the civic associations to build it with donations from the
Waggaman community and then to donate it to the Jefferson Parish
Recreation Department.
Please contact the S1 Civic Group or the Waggaman Civic Association for further information or to offer your services.
EMAIL Dudley Hartz, Project Coordinator
This project would not be possible without the contributions from our friends and neighbors.
Please contact us with your pledges and we will post them here.
Contributions pending so far are:
14 acres of land will probably be donated by Willswood Plantation LLC. pending on Core of Engineers decisions.
Why do we need a Fairgrounds?
We need the Fairgrounds to preserve our greenspace and our country way of life in Waggaman.
All the property north of Live Oak Blvd. used to
be zoned S1. It was rezoned to Industrial zoning because certain parties
did not want homes to be built close to the landfills. As the Huey P.
Long Bridge nears completion, more and more businesses will be
relocating to our area. The Fairgrounds will help preserve green space
in this area and may attract some other recreational interests to build
here also. If we do not preserve the green space, Live Oak Blvd. may
look like this in years to come.
